Introduction
Ayude Plus is made possible by a state grant that was written for after-school programs for the middle school, high school, and elementary schools in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District. The grant makes it possible to extend and expand current after-school tutorial programs and to add enrichment classes.
After-school hours are usually the hours when middle school students find it difficult to engage in productive activities. Since they are generally too young to get jobs, and since sports programs don’t meet all students’ needs, it is necessary for schools to offer activities that will benefit students academically, and give them opportunities to explore enrichment classes they might not otherwise have a chance to take during the regular school year. The data shows that students who have attended our after school program perform better in school than those students who do not attend.
